The Westminster Abbey Vigil
30 June to 1 July 2016

A vigil in memory of those who fought in the Somme Offensive, 1 July 1916 to 18 November 1916.

Students, members of the armed forces and representatives from the Commonwealth kept watch through the night of 30 June / 1 July at the grave of the Unknown Warrior at Westminster Abbey. We heard from those who were at the Somme.  We listened to their voices and the voices of their families; the voices of those who worked behind the lines and in the war effort at home; and to German voices.  Podcasts of the vigil readings were uploaded to the web as they were being performed live in Westminster Abbey.

Our thanks to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport for giving us the opportunity to work with them on this very special project.
